FATA Islamists; an American Perspective

By A Khokar   28 October 2008

On the eve of September 11th of this year, President Bush spoke at the dedication event of the new 9/11 Memorial at the Pentagon. He discussed military war on terror since 2001 at length. In light of George W Bush resolve and describing American response to 9/11 attack on US soil that Al Qaeda then supposedly was operating some where from the Tora Bora mountains hide outs with an escape plan to flee to melt down around their old sanctuaries across border in FATA Pakistan, when their stay at Tora Bora becomes untenable. They had carried out 9/11 attack on US soil in the name of Islam.

One may hark back 60 years or so to December 1941 and to the words that have been attributed to Admiral Yamamoto, the commander of the Japanese battle fleet, as he sailed back from the surprise attack against Pearl Harbour. While his sailors and officers were celebrating their success, the Admiral remained sombre. He recognized that, by provoking a country of such size and power- United States, Japan had actually just sealed its fate. He reportedly rendered the prediction by saying that they had “awakened a sleeping giant.” As we all know, Admiral Yamamoto was right. Once awakened to the true threat of Japanese and Nazi tyranny, America summoned her resolve, mobilized her resources, built a dominant military machine, and fought with grim determination until the Axis Powers surrendered. Al Qaeda’s attacks on September 11, 2001, similarly awakened American to a totalitarian threat—this time to the threat of violent Islamic extremism. And it similarly stirred United States to mobilize its will and resources to build the capacity to defeat that threat.

Seven years on and into that building process now, and under President Bush’s leadership US have seen some concrete results: US and her foreign partners have disrupted a number of high–profile terrorist plots, including a plot to destroy the Library Tower in Los Angeles, an attempt to blow up British airliners over the Atlantic Ocean, and a planned attack on Ramstein Air Base and Frankfurt International Airport.  US and her allies (in this case Pakistan being at fore front) have removed dozens of senior terrorist leaders from the battlefield, including the architect of the 9/11 attacks, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, Abu Zubaida, and Abu Musab al–Zarqawi.  United States is seeing hopeful signs in Muslim communities around the world, with mainstream Muslim voices speaking out against Al Qaeda and recent polling showing Muslims increasingly rejecting Al Qaeda’s vision and its campaign of indiscriminate violence—attacking mosques, bombing girls’ schools and wedding ceremonies, and killing the innocent.

US looks it as a success in making it harder, costlier, and riskier for terrorists to raise and move money around the world, which is complicating Al Qaeda’s daily operations and hampering its global reach. And most importantly, United States find itself relieved that this has prevented another attack on US homeland for more than seven years.  While describing the ‘Nature of the US Enemy’, US feel that they are making progress against the terrorists; this war on terror is far from over. This war is not like World War II or any of this nation’s previous wars; it will not end at some defined time with the passing of a sword or the signing of surrender on the deck of battleship. United States finds that his war is different because Al Qaeda is different. Al Qaeda is not like a nation–state whose power is defined by its armies, its land, or its industry— tangible national assets that are subject to destruction or capture by traditional military conquest.

Al Qaeda’s power is much more diffuse, much less tangible, and therefore much more difficult to destroy. Their power is in their message of hate and the alluring but ‘false narrative’ that they are the defenders of a religion under assault from the West; a message that resonates among some of the desperate and misguided throughout the world. It is in clever use of modern communications of Islamists, with which they spread that message of hate and mobilize the operations that turn that message into violence. It is in the financial support systems through which they receive funding from extremist supporters and corrupted charities. It is in their network of cells and trained personnel that gives them a presence and an operational footprint throughout the world. It is in their demonstrated ability to take advantage of weakly governed areas of the world to establish safe havens and operational bases; just as they did in the 1990s in Afghanistan; as they have done over the past few years in the border regions of Afghanistan and Pakistan in shape of Tehrik e Taliban Pakistan; and as they are now trying to do in Yemen and the Horn of Africa. It is in their strategic affiliation with regional terrorist groups such as Al Qaeda in Iraq, Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, and potentially others; a strategy that expands the group’s reach into different regions of the world and helps to ensure their survival.

And finally, this can be seen that United States does not hesitate to submit to the phenomena that the power of Al Qaeda lies largely in their patience. Al Qaeda and its affiliated fanatic networks are not fighting for short–term political gains. They are prosecuting a long–term war to eradicate values such as freedom of religion and freedom of speech. They want to remove Western influence and institutions from the Muslim world and re-establish a totalitarian seventh century caliphate from Spain to Indonesia. And they plan to carry out this war over the course of generations and centuries. For that reason, they can be patient, methodical, and brutally precise in their operations, and that makes them all the more dangerous. For all these reasons, we long ago recognized that Al Qaeda would not be defeated overnight. We also recognized that this war would require building a new counterterrorism apparatus with new approaches and relationships, new authorities and tools, and a new organizational structure—in short, a fundamental transformation of the government’s counterterrorism architecture.

The 9/11 attacks, and the horrific impact they had on our entire country, produced a clear mandate for the government to undertake this transformation and to build a whole new operational paradigm. That building effort started while the fires were still burning on September 11th, and it continues to this day. US are in seven years into that effort now, and it is seen as a great progress has been made. As US prepares for transition in Washington that the new President will have to take stock of all the progress made and make an assessment as how possibly to equip him self to carry on the fight. In order to adopt a strategy of Prevention; the new President will have to establish the core principles to ensure that America is preventing further attacks on the homeland. This world is faced with fanatics who were willing to die for their perverted cause; US could no longer rely on the traditional enforcement paradigm of deterring terrorism largely through prosecution and punishment after an attack. Instead, US had to focus all national assets and international relationships to detect and neutralize threats abroad before they matured into terrorist attacks at home.

President George W Bush has already called on all countries to counter the hateful ideology of US enemy with a message of tolerance and liberty, and he declared that those who harboured or supported terrorists would be treated as enemies. The President’s message was clear: We were facing a new type of enemy that required a new type of counterterrorism.

History is likely to repeat itself that US may vigorously enhance its efforts to quell and exterminate the will of Islamist Terrorist by destroying all their possible dens and sanctuaries where ever the terrorism breeds. America is all out to under take any such actions as to eliminate Al Qaeda and its supporters by using all the possible means at hand: especially to move in and eliminate the Terrorist sanctuaries in FATA used as safe havens in Pakistan. But probably the Islamists and general masses in Pakistan are not aware of it. They have failed to recognize that these Islamists playing up in FATA have “awakened a sleeping giant”, who is now knocking at our doors so violently to undo us.

No Cowing in Fear

By A Khokar • Oct 15th, 2008

Terrorism is an unusual phenomenon which can be defined by the responses of on lookers. It is evil in itself and emanates from the sense of fear generated by any sudden dreadful covert action under taken by some ruthless coward assailants by attacking the public prime targets to terrorise the society for their vested interests. All the terrorists they believe that acts of savagery and carnage for the purpose of cowing the population into submission…works. Any cowing shown by the society or by the people in government finding their lives endangered, is a win, win news in terrorists’ camps.

In the present state of turmoil in Pakistan; a sudden occurrence of bomb blasts at any national high value target may not be counted as unusual. Many advanced countries, claiming to be the lands of peace and plenty like the Britain in Europe, have been in the grip of anarchy spread by terrorists for a very long time. The IRA (Irish Republic Army) a terrorist group of Northern Ireland stayed pitched against England for the freedom of a northern chunk of Ireland which is part of Britain. IRA, they kept on unleashing terror through bomb blasts, killing of people and wide scale arson for a long many years on the main land Britain. This group had also a strong backing of a segment of society in Northern Island also. They fought for many years but rock like resilience of British government showed the terrorist only one thing; that Britain will not scum to IRA terrorising tactic. Britain unflinching resolve has been very clear that the terrorist’s tactic;— it may not work. The terrorists ultimately budged and were forced to renounced terrorism.

The savagery and terrorising tactic of Tehrik e Taliban in Pakistan, a brain-child of CIA in Pakistan, is exactly the same as of IRA but it should be borne in mind that the fear of terror must not lead us to any disorientation and bewilderedness. TTP be shown that we may not be cowed by fear and that we may not alter our right of liberty or our way of life, freedom and understanding of religion that we believe in.

In Pakistan; our fight against the terrorism demands a clear-cut anti- terrorist policy. First and far most will be that; the terrorist be declared the ‘Traitors of Pakistan’ and their abettors are ‘named and shamed’. The nation be mobilized on war footings and warned. A clear message ought to be sent to the terrorist camps …; No fear and no cowing in the face of their created anarchy.

The Enemy With In

By A Khokar

The ‘in camera session’ held for the members of parliament has got lot many secrets to reveal. After listening to some of the participants who attended the session, it is not very difficult to ascertain that Pakistan is finding it self fixed in a real fiasco; that honey moon period of Love with United states proved to be very short lived and disastrous. Pakistan finds end up paying for it in terms of depletion of its  sovereignty and the raging flames of war creeping up to engulf the entire country. It is revealed that some where down the line our FATA policies with the involvement of CIA in Intelligence sharing, that we previously agreed to work together, has been ‘compromised’. This agency is  found reasonably successful in breaching our first line of sacred defences laid out by ISI. CIA during this time has been able to initiate and mobilize number of frightful subversive groups to work in side Pakistan.

Tehrik e Taliban (TTP) is one of them pitched against us in FATA area which is surely a failure in the fields of Intelligence services. The peoples responsible; all have been sleeping on the wheels, while this menace kept on growing. It is a colossal failure on the part of the Intelligence services working in the area. It is most unfortunate that now we have got our enemies grown with in our own home land. This Tehrik e Taliban Pakistan (TTP) is different from the original Taliban which is pitched against the occupant foreign forces in Afghanistan. Earlier Taliban with the connivance of Pakistan have been using their sanctuaries in FATA area to train, regroup, plan and execute their operations in side Afghanistan. They do not own this TTP group; where as this savage Tehrik e Taliban Pakistan is on CIA’s payroll and is now grown into a monster.

This fake and imitation of Original Taliban Tehrike is raised to simulate the actual Taliban with the aim:-

  • To act and simulate like original Taliban but carry out such subversive actions like attacking security forces, disrupt the normal working of government agencies, kidnap the security personal and beheading of the captured personals, burning the girl schools and destruction of Infrastructures, roads, bridges, banks and markets in order to disrupt the social fabrics in Pakistan.
  •  To carry out such works so as to defame the cause of original Taliban in Afghanistan.
  •  By means of Terror and violence this Tehrik has been directed to challenge the writ of government thus to destabilize Pakistan. In this field they have been seen successful to some extent.
  • To create anarchy, so that Pakistan is seen destabilized and vulnerable. A destabilized Pakistan is the desired objective and an ultimate aim which give America a pretext to make advances in side Pakistan to secure the so called vulnerable Pakistani nuclear assets and denuclearise Pakistan and call it an action done in the wider interest of global security.

If this Tehrik was an indigenous Tehrik, the ‘Litmus Test’ is that as a viable force they should be  working for Pakistan as under ground force to indulge in Jihad like operations across borders to see American going out from this area; as it was earlier in case of Russian occupation of Afghanistan. Rather they have been assigned different tasks by CIA along with Mossad and RAW of India. The stooges abetting TTP are also successful, even to find certain high positions in the government circles. TTP is bent to destabilise Pakistan through insurgency; so to make a wedge and claim the areas under their influence as their own territory.

It is worth noting that certain political parties like JUI and Jamat e Islami (JI) are the enablers here that they helped raised TTP and are also, a would be beneficiaries; provided their TTP succeeds. That is why, Fazlur of JUI or JI never condemned TTP actions rather they are seen fostering these forces. Some of the major TV channels like Geo TV are also in the grip of their clout and direct influence. After raising this Tehrik; CIA has also been able to spell an atmosphere of hatred for America among the general masses in FATA and Pakistan; which is on purpose. The military action thus carried out by Pak Army to quell the insurgency is labelled; … as Pakistan is fighting US war and at the same time the rhetoric of US pressure to do more; further exacerbates the situation. Drone attacks on the comparatively settled area of Waziristan are part of the CIA game to jeopardise it further.

Above are some of the Mechanics involved in the ‘War and Games’ on play in FATA that each and every Pakistani has to under stand and be clear in mind and in his or her conviction. Lets all stand united like an invincible strong wall to fight all the enemies of Pakistan growing with in our borders. Let’s not be bewildered or be deluded with the priestly appearances of TTP enchanters moving around among us; in government circles or on TV Channels in the media.  There are Satan disguised as priests exploiting the peculiar religious psyche of the Pakistani ignorant masses and busy disintegrating our beloved land using religion as their favoured  weapon of violence. Nobody is serving God or Islam here, except they are pursuing their rapacious greed for personal gains. Lets us pluck them out and throw them out of this Land of Pure- the Pakistan.

Habib Jalib long ago said for such like people: Apney naheen Logo ; yeh Lagharaay, yeh Mazharay ?

Sharing Top Secrets of Pakistan in Camera

A Khokar

In the absence of Patriotic act that people in Pakistan are used to defy the rules and the constitution; not all but there are certain groups in Pakistan; whose allegiance with Pakistani Flag is doubtful. Reportedly; every body in the parliament is being called to come to attend the Joint Parliament Session in camera and share the TOP Secrets of Pakistan; probably with the aim to show them that how vulnerable: Pakistan is? There are certain political parties who have vehemently been pursuing the anti Pakistani activities; like Jammat e Islami and JUI of Fazlur that they were instrumental in establishing the Anti Pakistan Tehrik; Tehrik e Taliban Pakistan and they still support them. There are other parties those are committed to support the separatist movements in Baluchistan like Baluchistan Liberation army as well as Baluchistan Conservative Army and that they are now in government.

None of these political parties and anti Pakistan organisations have openly renounced their evil designs. They have not repented at the ‘Altar of Pakistan’ of their subversive acts; nor they have told the truth that how they have been accepting the huge amounts from CIA and Indian agency Raw? Neither they have disarmed them selves nor declared their allegiance with Pakistan, openly. How come all such peoples are also being called for in camera session to share the Top Secret matters of Pakistan?

There are other major parties like Pakistan Muslim League (N) that in order to wade away the foreseen burden of enormous responsibilities falling on the shoulders of new government; they left the PPP alone on purpose to deal with the precarious state of affairs; they very conveniently have opted out from coalition, on purpose, to stay away from providing the required leadership to see PPP failing. There are also other cohorts of Tehrik e Taliban found in the government ranks. They have never condemned the flagrant crimes being committed by TTP.

Unfortunately the history sheets of many participants are full of deceit, treason and betrayal. Possibly the session in the camera will be conducted and may point out the salient that how:-

  • CIA has been dishing out the monies in Pakistan and that there are people sitting right among us, who accepted monies, weapons and other equipment to work against Pakistan to derail the country.
  • The Armed Forces plans to conduct their operations. How they may fight the terrorists to establish writ of government in troubled areas and what are the Military limitations.
  • The Long list of other Pakistan’s vulnerabilities.
  • The Nuclear assets, their details and their possible use.
  • That state of Pakistan’s economy which is at the brink of collapse.
  • That how best to befriend; America for safe sailing in the face of US tyranny.
  • Etc, etc, etc.

It seems like a dangerous and absurd game to give away the secrets. But… at the same time; I do hope that basic principle of dissemination of information and intelligence will be kept in mind that only that portion of information is disseminated which is essential and definitely required by the other side.

Any how administering the pledge of Allegiance to Pakistani flag is an oath of loyalty to the country which may be more important than any thing else at this occasion.

*Ab Kahaan Jaoon; keh ghar main bhi hoan dushman apna

*Aur  bahir  mera  Dushman  hey;  Nageh-bani  ko ?

While Marriot at Islamabad was Burning

By A Khokar

While Marriot at Islamabad was engulfed in flames; I was sitting thousands of miles away from my home land– Pakistan and watching this horrific scenes on TV. Saddened and bemused; I remembered an old man, who belonged to an aristocrat German family. Prior to World War II, he owned a number of industries and estates.

It was Nazis-Era; when asked how many German people were true Nazis, the answer he gave can guide our attitude toward the—Fanaticism. ‘Very few people were true Nazis,’ he said, ‘but many enjoyed the return of German pride, and many more were too busy to care. I was one of those who just thought the Nazis were a bunch of fools. So, the majority just sat back and let it all happen. Then, before we knew it, they owned us, and we had lost control, and the end of the world had come. My family lost everything. I ended up in a concentration camp and the Allies destroyed my factories.’

We are told again and again by ‘experts’ and ‘talking heads’ that Islam is the religion of peace, and that the vast majority of Muslims just want to live in peace. Although this unqualified assertion may be true, it is entirely– ‘irrelevant’.

It is meaningless fluff, meant to make us feel better, and meant to somehow diminish the spectra of fanatics rampaging across the globe in the name of Islam. The fact is that the fanatics rule Islam at this moment in history. It is the fanatics who march. It is the fanatics who wage any one of 50 shooting wars worldwide. It is the fanatics who systematically slaughter tribal groups throughout Africa and are gradually taking over the entire continent in an Islamic wave. It is the fanatics who bomb, behead, murder, or carry out honour-killing in Asia. It is the fanatics who take over mosque after mosque. It is the fanatics who zealously spread the stoning and hanging of rape victims. It is the fanatics who teach their young to kill and to become suicide bombers.

The hard quantifiable fact is that the peaceful majority, the ‘silent majority,’ is cowed and extraneous. Communist Russia was comprised of Russians who just wanted to live in peace, yet the Russian Communists were responsible for the murder of about 20 million people. The peaceful majority were ‘irrelevant’. China’s huge population was peaceful as well, but Chinese Communists managed to kill a staggering 70 million people. The average Japanese individual prior to World War II was not a warmongering sadist. Yet, Japan murdered and slaughtered its way across South East Asia in an orgy of killing that included the systematic murder of 12 million Chinese civilians; most killed by sword, shovel, and bayonet. And, who can forget Rwanda, which collapsed into butchery. Could it not be said that the majority of Rwandans were ‘peace loving’?

History lessons are often incredibly simple and blunt, yet for all our powers of reason we often miss the most basic and uncomplicated of points: The Peace-loving Muslims have been made irrelevant by their silence. Peace-loving Muslims will become enemy if they don’t speak up, because like my friend from Germany, they will awaken one day and find that the fanatics own them, and the end of their world will have begun. Peace-loving Germans, Japanese, Chinese, Russians, Rwandans, Serbs, Afghans, Iraqis, Palestinians, Somalis, Nigerians, Algerians, and many others have died because the peaceful majority did not speak up until it was too late.

As for us who watch it all unfold, we must pay attention to the only group that counts; the ‘Fanatics’ who threaten our way of life; in the name of God. It is the Satan trying to preach us, using the religion as his weapon. But it is our contributing to the passiveness that allows the problems to expand.

The Third US Battle Ground: PAKISTAN

By A Khokar

The US and its allies succeeded in toppling Taliban regime in November 2001 and replacing it with a puppet regime, but the Taliban were neither militarily defeated nor eliminated from the system. But for effective encirclement of Afghanistan from all directions and massive air support provided by USA, the Northern Alliance could not have made any progress.

Once the Taliban realised that they were no more in a position to offer resistance particularly after Pakistan ditched them, they considered it prudent to carry out a tactical withdrawal from Kabul and most took shelter in Pashtun dominated southern and eastern Afghanistan. Some trickled into FATA and Baluchistan where they had their kith and kin and some moved into Iran. They remained inactive till 2002 but utilised this time to regroup and refit themselves to be able to strike back at the invading forces that had devastated their country. Bush and his teams of neo-cons felt complacent that the Taliban and Al-Qaeda had been taken care of and only the remnants had to be flushed out. It was this smugness which impelled them to invade and occupy Iraq in March 2003.

In the meanwhile, the vices that had been eliminated by the Taliban during their short rule reappeared in a big way. Besides lack of justice, war lordism, corruption, poppy growing, drug business and nepotism reigned supreme. The Taliban and their supporters were either brutally killed or put in Bagram jail and subjected to horrendous torture. The Pashtuns being in great majority were persecuted and power got concentrated in the hands of non-Pashtun Northern Alliance elements and war lords. The occupation forces inflicted heavy collateral damage on civilians whenever they confronted the militants. These developments disillusioned the Afghans and sympathy wave among the Pashtuns living both sides of the border started to shift towards the Taliban. Induction of NATO forces in 2003 together with deteriorating law and order situation provided the spark to ignite insurgency. When Gen Musharraf submitted to US pressure after 9/11 and ditched the Taliban in Afghanistan, he provided air bases as well as logistics support and shared intelligence with CIA.

He allowed CIA and FBI to recruit agents in FATA and other places and to establish their outposts. The focus of ISI and other agencies was shifted towards hunting and nabbing so-called terrorists all over the country, in monitoring dissident elements within the army and in political wheeling and dealings. The CIA acquired all the links ISI and MI had both sides of the Pak-Afghan border and gradually took most agents on ISI payroll within its fold. By virtue of having better technology and means the CIA was able to take over intelligence acquisition and dissemination system. As a consequence the troops operating in FATA became entirely dependent upon CIA inputs. Taking advantage of complete liberty of action, CIA succeeded in buying the loyalties of many tribal chiefs and notables in FATA by doling out dollars in sacks since it knew that the Pashtun could not be crushed by force but could be purchased.

Those not falling in line were got killed. In FATA, Nek Muhammad was first cultivated and provided logistic support. When he entered into a peace deal with Pak Army in July 2005, he was killed using precision guided missile. Abdullah Masood, an Afghan war veteran who had also fought the Northern Alliance in October-November 2001 was captured and brainwashed during his two years internment in Guatanamo Bay. He was released after agreeing to work on terms dictated by CIA and he soon was able to takeover the leadership role. His death at Zhob at the hands of Pak security forces was a loss for CIA. Baitulah Masood and Fazlullah had not taken part in Afghan jihad and do not qualify to head Taliban; yet 30 year old Baitullah has managed to create Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Fazlullah calls the shots in Swat. Mulla Omar had never shown interest in establishing any links with Pakistani Taliban and had warned Nek Muhammad not to operate under the brand name of Taliban.

It is being questioned as to how come Baitullah, Fazlullah and their spokesmen desperately wanted by Pakistan security forces have escaped the hawk eye of USA, particularly after they have been seen giving detailed interviews to media and using their cell phones? ISI had once given six figure coordinates of Baitullah and yet no Hellfire missile was fired on his hideout by CIA. The TTP that has spread its influence in all the seven agencies of tribal belt and in neighbouring settled districts of NWFP has succeeded in making inroads into Punjab, particularly southern Punjab. Large number has got recruited from Chiniot, Bahawalpur, Dera Nawab, Bahawalnagar, Faisalabad, Sialkot and other places. Though they do not speak a word of Pashto, but are fighting side by side with Pathan Taliban. After Shakai peace deal with the militants in South Waziristan in July 2005, Pakistan was subjected to a calculated slander campaign.

Having fixed more than one lac troops into the furnace of FATA it was scoffed at for not doing enough to control militancy in FATA. Pakistan was also accused of nuclear proliferation and IAEA kept up the pressure to hand over AQ Khan for interrogation. Musharraf accepted the charge and forced AQ Khan to make a confession to defuse the heat. The religious extremist threat was blown out of all proportions and it was repeatedly stated that Pakistan’s nuclear assets had become unsafe. Musharraf accepted this charge as well and promised to fight extremism and terrorism with full force. After declaring Pakistan as the most dangerous country, FATA was declared as the most dangerous place on earth. Pakistan was blamed for growing turbulence in Afghanistan since in view of US military leaders and Karzai; Pak army was not doing enough to control militancy.

The phenomenon of missile attacks by drones commenced in January 2006 when a suspected target in Damadola was attacked killing scores of innocent civilians. Another deadly missile attack was launched on a Madrassa in Bajaur in October that year killing 80 students. Ever since, this phenomenon continues unabated. Once the ISI got freed from wild goose chase of so-called terrorists and came under pressure on account of missing persons, it started to concentrate on its primary task in the troubled spots. To its horror it found far too many militant groups and criminal gangs operating under the guise of religious militants and cultivated by foreign agencies. They were the ones involved in carrying out gruesome beheadings of security personnel and torching girls’ schools to defame the real Taliban who had a peaceful agenda. Besides CIA, RAW and RAM, even Iran and Uzbekistan had developed its tentacles in Baluchistan, Swat and Kurram Agency.

Most of the pro-Pakistan groups had been purchased or neutralized and those not coming to terms were eliminated by groups sponsored by CIA. Things had gone topsy-turvy and ISI found itself at a loss how to differentiate between friend and foe. It is when the ISI began to recover the lost ground and renewed its old contacts in FATA and started to expose and block clandestine activities of CIA, RAW and RAM that all hell broke lose on ISI. Instead of feeling ashamed of what they were doing, USA had the cheeks to start making hue and cry that ISI was linked with the Taliban and that it must be emasculated. The three colluding partners lost their cool when the Indian Embassy in Kabul was subjected to a suicide attack on 7 July 2008. The trio fumed with anger and blamed ISI without even carrying out preliminary investigations.

It was alleged that the perpetrator of suicide attack belonged to Gujranwala. Adm. Mike Mullen and Deputy Director CIA Stephen Kappes came huffing and puffing to Islamabad on 12 July and expressed their concern in strong words. Both Gen Tariq and Gen Kayani were told to bring the ISI to heel and to control militancy on their side of the border. The details of suicide bomber provided by the visitors proved false. It transpired later on that it was a bomb planted in a parked jeep which was detonated with the help of a remote control and was master minded by Mossad. In the meanwhile Bush gave a green signal to Pentagon to extend the sphere of operations in Afghanistan into neighbouring FATA in July. He said that besides Iraq and Afghanistan, Pakistan is the third battleground. The military was told to hit targets whenever any actionable intelligence was available without notifying Pakistan. US troops started to man mobile posts all along Pak-Afghan border with Paktika as their main forward base camp.

These hostile steps were taken in spite of the fact that the new government under Zardari had abandoned its policy of dialogue and resumed the policy of force against the militants. After a month long Frontier Corps led operation in Khyber Agency, the army was employed in Hangu to control the unrest. In continuation of offensive policy, the army launched powerful operations in Swat in July and in Bajaur on 6 August backed by jetfighters, gunship helicopters, tanks and artillery guns and started to make rapid progress against the well entrenched militants. Operations in these two restive areas are still going in with full steam and several hundred militants have been killed.

Instead of getting pleased, the Americans got disturbed since they never intended to control militancy but to spread the flames of militancy into cities and create anarchic conditions. The month of September saw intensification of missile attacks and each attack resulted in loss of innocent lives. To create fear and panic among the peaceful residents of Waziristan and also to target pro-government elements, missile attacks were intensified and each attack killed innocent men, women and children. The idea was to antagonize pro-government Waziris and also to force them to migrate as had happened in case of Bajaur. To further up the ante, Pakistan was declared as a battleground and a first ever ground attack was carried out by US troops on the night of 3 September at Angoor Adda killing 15 men women and children. A deadly missile attack was conducted on pro-Pakistan Jalaluddin Haqqani house in North Waziristan on 8 September killing 25 inmates mostly women and children. He was blamed for carrying out attack on Indian Embassy.

The intruding drone was forced to beat a hasty retreat on 12 September when own jets got airborne and started to track it. A ground attack on 15th was also thwarted by the troops and locals. So far 62 border violations have been carried out by US-ISAF forces including 36 after the takeover by PPP government in March 2008. So far 30 missile attacks have been made killing innocent people. In none of the attack any Al-Qaada operative or militant Taliban was killed. The nexus in Kabul is working upon a scripted plan to make FATA lawless and beyond the control of security forces, push militancy into settled areas and then into major cities and thus create a civil warlike situation to prove their contention that Pakistan was the most dangerous country in the world and that the extremists were on the verge of taking over power and nuclear weapons. After inflaming South Waziristan, North Waziristan, Mohmand Agency, Khyber Agency, Darra Adam Khel, Kurram Agency, Hangu and Swat, Bajaur Agency was built into a stronghold of militants where huge cache of arms and ammunition was dumped.

By virtue of being located at the crossroad of the tribal belt and also linked with Dir, Swat and Afghanistan, it was to act as bulwark and a launching pad to provide reinforcement to other areas.10,000 Indian troops are stationed in Afghanistan under the garb of supervising construction of road Jalalabad-Port Chahbahar project that has now been completed. Whereas India has officially declared 14 Indian consulates in Afghanistan, on ground they have 107 in which 20 intelligence units are burning their midnight oil to destabiliZe Pakistan. Many mercantile shops run by Indians have an intelligence office in the rear. In Wakhan, a religious Madrassa run by Indian Muslim clerics is functioning since 2002 under the patronage of RAW and Mossad. Very young boys, mostly orphans, destitute or homeless are recruited. Recruits are mostly Afghans, Uzbeks, Tajiks and Caucasians.

The latter being fair skinned and resembling Europeans are trained to hit targets in Europe or in USA to once again create a 9/11 like situation. Reportedly, 10,000 ideologically motivated terrorist and suicide bombers have been trained. Besides receiving military training, they have also been made to learn Pashto and customs of Pathans. They are regularly infiltrated into troubled spots of Pakistan. Posing as volunteers they join the rank and file of militants to fight the army. They are the ones who are destroying schools, CD shops, bridges and other installations and carrying out brutal beheading of captured personnel. The idea is to create chaos and confusion and also to defame the real Taliban that have not come under their influence. They are also responsible for creating cleavages within the people of FATA and in disrupting peace deals. In Kurram Agency, Afghan officers and soldiers are actively involved in the sectarian conflict by way of providing arms and ammunition to Shias belonging to Tori tribe and physically participating in duels with Sunnis. In Swat, Fazlullah led militants are supplied with war munitions as well as fighters. Likewise, dissident tribal chiefs in Baluchistan including late Akbar Bugti were also taken on board.

The CIA helped in reincarnating BLA and providing all sorts of war munitions to Baloch militants belonging to Bugti, Marri and Mengal tribes and establishing over 60 Farari camps in Baluchistan. Shamsi airbase that was handed over to USA in October 2001, houses Blackhawk helicopters primarily engaged in monitoring the entire length of Iranian border. CIA has cultivated Sunni Iranian Baloch Jandullah group (not the one that had operated against 5 Corps commander). It is anti- Iranian regime and was utilised by CIA to carryout acts of sabotage in Iran through Zahidan. Iran has now constructed a stone wall all along its border to prevent cross border terrorism from Baluchistan. It has clouded Pak-Iran relations since the latter feels that such activities could not have been undertaken without the blessing of Pak government. It is now clear that our so-called friends, the Baluch sons have been playing a double game. Now that USA has bared its teeth and let its intentions known, to pretend that it would stop short of achieving its objectives will be like living in fools’ paradise.

It is simply degrading to unashamedly say that we cannot fight the Americans. It is also preposterous to assume that Pakistan may not survive without American support. Pro-American elements within Pakistan on US payroll have been parroting this theme since creation of Pakistan to safeguard their vested interests. North Korea, Cuba, Venezuela, Bolivia, Iran, Somalia are living examples who have survived despite adopting hostile posture against USA. It is high time that we gird up our loins and put our act together to face up to the challenge boldly. The army under Gen Kayani has expressed its resolve to confront the threat and safeguard country’s sovereignty irrespective of the consequences. It is known that US lead forces invade the areas only which have been fully softened up or offer no potent resistance. It is now up to our week-kneed rulers oblivious of the ominous threat and still busy in power game as to how they stand up to the test. It will be naive to expect that the threat will be warded off with diplomacy alone. We must make USA realise that it will become exceedingly difficult for US led allied troops to operate in Afghanistan if Pakistan opts out of fighting US war of terror and refuses to provide transit facility to carry oil and food supplies to its troops in Afghanistan. The magnitude of dependence can be gauged from the fact each day over 400 containers ply from Karachi and Quetta to Afghanistan transporting food, munitions and 300 million gallons of fuel for US-Nato troops in Afghanistan.

We may also consider bridling CIA’s unchecked activities and closing down four bases in control of USA. But our Pakistaniat demands from us that our actions may not be piffle. What we need are a few exemplary hangings of these known traitors and their cohorts. Public hangings. On television. Pick these stooges; lead them through Qissa Khawni Bazzar- Peshawar in chains and on to the Gallows and give the public a satisfaction.

A Lecture on Modern-Day American Imperialism: Middle East and Beyond by Noam Chomsky

Noam Chomsky, an emeritus professor of linguistics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a well-known political activist critical of U.S. foreign policy, traces modern-day American imperialism to its earliest roots, 25 years before the American Revolution. If it weren’t for British forces preventing America’s expansion, claims Chomsky, Canada wouldn’t exist today.

Chomsky says the current war in Iraq can be traced back to the U.S. invasion of Florida during Andrew Jackson’s administration, which was an “executive war in violation of the constitution, a precedent that has been followed ever since.” He compares the United States to a Mafia “godfather,” crushing third world countries like disobedient shop owners who don’t pay their protection money so others will get the point. The United States, he says, has a reputation as “the most frightening and dangerous country in the world.” Chomsky claims that those in power in Washington, in London, in editorial offices, and in universities are defying the world — the majority of the world’s people, including most of the U.S. population, are against the war in Iraq, agree with the Group of 77 at the United Nations, which approves of Iran’s right to enrich uranium for nuclear power, and support the rights of Palestinian peasants who were removed from their land by Israel. But there is hope, and according to Chomsky, it lies with South America — whose countries are banding together to work against the oppressive forces of the United States by weakening the presence of American military and strengthening their own economies. The failed attempt of the United States to overturn the results of the recent democratic election in Bolivia, he says, is one example of this glimmer of hope.
